About PADDS

It all started in 2012, Dr Dhingra and Dr Grewal arranged for Dr Dev Singh from New Cross to give a talk in the Community Centre, at the meeting Dr Singh encouraged us to form a local Diabetics Support Group.  So with the support of some very dedicated people, we formed the Perton and District Diabetes Support  (PADDS), which is a voluntary group run by diabetics for diabetics.

We had our first open meeting with Katrina Maguire as our guest speaker from Wolves Community Trust in Dr Dhingra’s waiting room. There were some anxious moments at the start of the meeting when only a handful of people were there, but it ended very encouragingly with about 30 people in attendance and we deemed our first meeting as a success.

We were off and running and as at March 2015 we have over 100 members.

From this encouraging start we now meet up in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere on the first Saturday of every month at Perton Library and have an invited guest speaker to come along and talk to us on a range of diabetes linked subjects.

There are many people who have supported us along the way but a special mention must go to SCC Community Wellbeing Fund who have provided us with some valuable funding, Dr Dev Singh from New Cross Hospital and the Nurses from Tamar Medical Centre.
